Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, we’re officially well into the holiday season. Everyone now has their eyes set on Christmas and Hanukkah — and the lovely family time these holidays bring with them. In addition to giving and receiving presents, the holidays are about spending time with those you love; whether that’s in person or online. Although this year’s holiday festivities may look different than they have in the past, there are still so many fun ways to celebrate.

1. Host a Family Game Night

Around the holidays, lots of families like to have game nights — playing cards, board games, or even video games together as a family. Whether you’re gathering with family in person or not this year, you can still play games! In addition to playing games that are online to begin with, you can also try making your very own trivia — and each household can be a separate team!

2. Have a Bake-Off

Although there are no office parties or holiday cookie gatherings going on this year, that doesn’t mean everyone shouldn’t get a chance to enjoy holiday sweets. With the other people in your household, set aside a day to have an in-house holiday bake-off! Have everyone choose their favorite recipe for cookies, cakes, pies, and other desserts, and then get baking. At the end of the day, try out all the delicious treats you cooked up.

3. Watch Family-Friendly Holiday Movies

On those cold days when it’s just too chilly to do anything else, cozy up on the couch with a cup of hot cocoa and watch some family-friendly holiday movies. HBO Max has tons of great options, like A Flintstone Christmas, Unaccompanied Minors, HBO’s Santa Buddies, and the new Max Original My Gift: A Christmas Special from Carrie Underwood.

4. Make DIY Decorations

No one can truly get into the holiday spirit without some great holiday decorations, so this year try making your very own DIY decor. You can go for the classics — like folding and cutting white paper to make snowflakes, or try something more unique — like building mini snowmen out of cotton balls!

5. Go On a Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt

Just because most of us are staying home for the holidays, it doesn’t mean we have to stay trapped inside our houses. A great way to get outside is to go on a scavenger hunt! Make a list of everything you want to try to see (like a reindeer lawn sculpture, multi-colored Christmas lights, blow-up Santa Claus figures, and more), and then go for a walk or drive to see what you can find.
