Celebrates First Female VP Adorable 1st-Birthday Photo Shoot
As a family and lifestyle photographer, Nikki Cee is a pro when it comes to capturing special moments. But her latest photoshoot is gaining attention for the powerful way it celebrates both a milestone birthday for one family and a groundbreaking moment in US history. Cee, who owns NCeePhotography in Crofton, Maryland, was recently asked to theme a client’s first-birthday photoshoot around the inauguration of Vice President Kamala Harris — and the adorable (and moving) results are going viral.
The idea came from the 1-year-old’s mom, who was inspired by her daughter’s very “presidential” name: Regan Kennedy Adams.
But even with a clear connection to US history, Cee admitted to Today that she was initially hesitant about the theme.
After all, trying to capture the significance of the first woman — and the first person of color — to be sworn in as vice president was, well, kind of major.
“To be honest, I was scared,” said Cee, who was first approached about it by Regan’s mom several months ago. “I didn’t think I would do it justice.”
She politely turned down the job, but Regan’s mom would hear none of it.
“She was like, ‘No, no, no. You can do it,'” Cee recalled.
Eventually, Cee came around to the idea.
After the election was officially called for Biden and Harris, the enormity of it all really hit the photographer.
“I was like, ‘Oh, yeah. We’ve definitely got to do this now,'” she recalled.
Speaking with CafeMom, the photographer says it took a few months for everything to come together.
“It was so super important for the details to be critical and also cute,” Cee explains. “We wanted to do the shoot justice for sure.”
Naturally, Regan’s outfit was of prime importance.
The toddler was dressed in a pink pantsuit, along with Harris’s trademark Chuck Taylors and a string of pearls.
During the photo shoot, which took place December 17, Cee says Regan was glowing.
“She was in such a good mood,” the photographer told Today. “It literally was perfect.”
Cee shared the photos with her Instagram followers Wednesday to celebrate Inauguration Day.
“Our excitement for today cannot be contained!!” the post’s caption read. “Happy inauguration day!”
In just a few days, thousands of people have liked and commented on the photos of little Regan, which has filled Cee with pride.
“The response has been overwhelmingly beautiful,” Cee tells CafeMom. “So many people love what we did and it means so much because of the historical significance and because of the representation that the shoot represents overall.”
In the end, Cee hopes people can appreciate how adorable Baby Regan is — as well as how important this moment in history is.
“I want people to take away the cuteness, but most of all I want them to know (especially little girls and minorities) that you can literally do anything you put your mind to,” Cee says. “Dream big and put in the work, and you can and will be great!”
